Linux - onna stick

Ubuntu onna stickAnother new toy, but at least I am scaling back. Ubutnu on a lurid pink 2gB mini-USB, with 1gB free for user data and the o/s in write-protected ROM.

I will either hang it from my keyring, or remove the lurid pink casing and carry it in my wallet. In either case, I will always have it with me.

And, no, Danny, I will not install Wine and a bunch of Windows password hackers!

The perfect toy … totally drool-worthy and will almost certainly never be used :-) and at U.S $10.24, they're cutting their own throats!

You know me well, Graham. I do have an Ubuntu system at home and Wine is frequently used. I did almost go with the “linux on a stick” option and just never went with it. Maybe I’ll find a need for it in the future and get totally geekified. But for now, I’ll let you set the pace on this one. Feel free to post what you use if for.

Well, I currently have a slim form USB stick, one of those very flat ones, in my wallet. It mostly contains data, with a few useful apps.

A full blown Linux would be nice – always to have your apps & data with you, although you would have to remember to synch it (I still don’t like to leave my data on the web – not even on my own server).

It’s a great pity that Project Blackdog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BlackDog) seems to have ground to a halt – a USB stick with a Motorola CPU which you plug into a PC and it will “hi-jack” the keyboard, monitor and peripherals. When you unplus it, the system resumes as was.

Btw, if you don’t like to dual boot, I have had great success with Sun’s VirtualBox to run Linux under Widows or vv.

Of course, I would use Linux only … if it weren’t for Maple Story :-)

Why not blow a whole $10.24 (with free shipping) on ne of these and see how much time you can waste?
